I think that it is quite common for the eggs to get eaten the first couple of times until they mature a little.... you could also have a look at www.discusforums.com they have a forum on Angelfish with quite a few members who breed both discus and angels.. hth

aww, it was going so nicely now my male angel has lost its appitite. v skinny, i think his on a hunger stricke i fed em blood worms and he ate. il continue this and then switch back to there normal diet. incase your wondering if this is a cause of geting bored of food/not likeing food etc, this isnt the case, i feed my fish the following (i choose a random one every day, but i make sure not to use one repetitively) tetra mix tropical flakes nutrafin max complete flake food nutra fin max plus, mysis flakes (witg bits of dried mysis [angles dont seem to like them that much, but they eat the flakes) and spirulina algea flakes and the ocasional frozen bloodworm or frozen brine shrimp (they dont like the frozen ones, the frozen brine shrimp come out all broken up etc and the fish ignor em. i might switch to live ones to get them to eat it ) recon somethings wrong with this fishy diet?

How long has he not been eating for? You could also try live black worms.. they are full of protein and good for fattening up.. I feed them to my discus. Does he have any signs of worms or anything you may need to worm him... when feeding live foods I have noticed that most people tend to worm their fish every 6 months.

i dont feed live worms what do you mean by worming? ive had these fish for months and they never showed sign of sickness, nor had any new tank mates i doubt thats the problem as i dont see how it could have goten in. he hasnt been eating for 3 weeks. just eating a little.

sorry tidus, I misread and thought you were feeding live bloodworms.. I see that they are frozen. I own discus and alot of other people I know on the discusforums worm their fish regularly... but normally this is because they are feeding their fish live worms so the chances of parasites entering the tank is higher....
If your angel isnt eating it is a sign that something isnt right.... Does he show any signs of illness or does he flick or rub on objects in the tank... What are your water parameters? Who are his tankmates... if he is getting bullied he may stop eating...
Although not adding fish decreases the chances of getting diseases, most fish will harbour certain bacterias which when in optimum conditions do not cause problems, but if their immune system is down alittle due to stress or similar they can still contract bacterial disorders. You may want to try adding a little salt to your tank at a rate of 1 teaspoon per 40 litres this can help your fish to relax a little and frequent water changes etc... if you are having problems getting him to eat I would encourage some live food such as brine shrimp as most fish wont say no to that... HTH

others are 5 angles including his pair 2 flying foxes and 1 catfish but the 4 young angles i have along with catfish and flying foxes are separated from the 2 pair. so the 2 are on there own. in the same water cons abviously, i separated em with flywire built on a frame amade by me dad to fit into my aquarium, so there is NO water difference on the 2 sides. i add salt. ph sitting at 6.4. and this is the fish i have never seen getting bullied, he was allways (suprisingly) protected by the female lol. which was the most agresive fish ive had, but she doesnt lag a finger, well, fin on her boyfriend. so bulling isnt a problem. (and there separated form others now, so again no bulling is possible.)

might be worth not adding the salt. It isnt so good for catfish or soft-water fish like angels. Mainly semi-brackish fish like livebearers or gobys.

I have actually been reading up on the use of salt with catties and loaches and have read quite alot of info about salt being okay if dissolved totally before being put into the tank... I will try and find the link and put in on here. Salt in the small amounts I have quoted will help promote slime coat in discus and help the fish to relax so I assumed that the same would go for angels. I am sorry if I was wrong about this. Cheers, sammi.

i dont think its wrong when i do a water change i get a glass of hot water and disolve me stuff in there before hand. then i add that to my bucket and bour it all in. i dont use sea salt or anything but i use mineral salt things that are ment for fresh water.

Well you can also use rock salt or cooking salt. It is especially useful in the case of nitrite poisoning as it helps the fish to absorb more oxygen. (thats what I have read anyway. :-))
