Here are some oddities turning up in my community: a half-platinum, mother was a half-black gold bodied fish. a strange batch of pure white fry saved from the community tank today, compare with the larger 'gold' bodied fry a georgous male butterfly roundtail and his mate

I dont think the butterfly is the white frys dad. They where a real surprise, strange thing is the female had around 25% black fry also, after I posted. I have never seen a batch of fry so white, especially with a few pure blacks. Cant wait to see what they grow into. I have a suspician they are part of the 'gold cobra' gene pool that tends to produce a lighter coloured fish every generation that is outcrossed. Should be interesting. I thingk the gold bodied HB's may have also been an outcross of the gold cobras about 6 months back. Will keep posted how they turn out

I have only had two batches of fry and they have both been white so I assumed they all came that way? Unfortunately my first batch the cage dropped into the tank when I wasn't looking so they ended up as dinner.... pouts. But today has been birthing day at my place. I did a waterchange yesterday, upped the temperature a little because i had a faulty heater and my new one was finaly working right, and also added some brine shrimp to the meal time, next thing I know i am looking in my tank and at the back, in the leaves are heaps of fry. I scooped up as many as I could. No idea who is the mom, they females all still look pregnant to me. And if that isn't enough, then there start appearing either molly or platty fry, only four of them, but I have no idea who the mom is for them either...laughs. But it was fun trying to catch the little buggers, and I can't wait to find out what colors they turn out to be.

I can tell there is fry in the tank when My big old angel starts 'stalking'. he is so big and slow he never seems to catch any before they dart away into the weed. The only real danger for the fry is the betta that like to wriggle into the carpet of weed and wait there for them.

Just wondering what exatly makes it a butterfly? the body markings. A 'butterfly' looks like it has dabs of colour all over the body these will be almost every colour of the rainbow (not black). I will try to get some more pics of my old butterflys. Usually they also come with a mosaic tail with perfectly geometrical spots (butterfly mosaics)
