I went to an LPS and found them selling artificially dyed fish and dye injected fish. The poor things looked diseased and revolting. I dont know how an LPS that cares about its livestock or customers could bear to sell such abominations.
Someone should tattoo them with a knitting needle and paint [/Rant]

They have definitley lost a customer who would litterally buy hundreds of dollars worth of equiptment, food and fish each year. I cant be bothered being a customer and giving my money to people like that.

Make that two!, I saw the same shop selling the dyed fish, they had a tank full of injected and another full of dyed, I walked out of the place never to return! At least there are still a few LPS around here with morals, they may cost a few $ more but I think I would rather pay the few extra $ and know I am getting a product from someone who cares about their livestock and customers here is a nice site on the process they put the poor things through www.deathbydyeing.org

If u cant breed certain traits into your fish then you are a cheat!!! This type of dying is a form of totrure for fish. Its unnatural and painful and damaging to the fish. IF the fish lives then quite often after a while the colour will fade out anyway. So i ask... WHAT IS THE POINT! Only the truly new aquarist would ever have an excuse for buying one of these fish.....but on the otherhand if u do ur reserch and learn about the fish before buying, there is no excuse. Obviously if a fish has flourescent pink fins....it cant be natural.

quite francly I would laugh If I ever saw and article where eco-terrorists storm one of the facilities where they make these fish and put the breeders through the same process. But then again, removing the slime-coat on these guys would be a plus

I'm with all of you. Thats horrible. Why do such a thing when we have such a fantastic variety of color and fish here in AUS. I have not come across it yet and hope I never will but If I do they will well and truely find out how I feel about it and I would also report to Animal welfare in the hope something can be done.

Unfortunatley It is a gimmick that sells a lot of fish. Best thing to do is Inform people of how they are 'created' and not to buy. If ther is no demand and huge customer backlash then they will stop selling them.

The only dyed fish I've seen were in a pic on the net, probably walked past a few in shops and didnt notice though, they were a rainbow type fish dyed with bright pinks reds blues and greens in those real flouresent shades. Terrible thing to do and not pretty at all.

way back when, when I was a fish novice I went to a LFS and saw glass tetras with flouro fins and tails and spinal columns... I thought they were naturally like that and asked the shop assistant.. she told me that they were died and how they were injected... of course once I knew they were fake I didn't buy one and I told them what I thought of the practice.... the unfortunate thing is that it is sort of a catch 22... if no one buys the poor fish then they went through that painful process for nothing and will probably end up dying in a shop and having a horrible life and if you do buy one then you just add to the aquariums thoughts of it being an acceptable practice... it really is the poor fish that lose out big time

Its very strange it is happening again. the first time this gimmick was tried was inn the late 60's early 70's. There was such a public uproar about the practice that it became illegal in several countries and was virtually stamped out everywhere else. I had never seen these fish untill about 8 -9 years ago when they had a flood of all different dyed fish coming into petshops.
Its strange how in a time when we are having massive protests about sheep, chickens, pigs and everything similar that the 'animal activists' of out time are not even batting an eyelid at this practice going on in ther back yards. Just as disgusting is the recent spate of trying to covince people that bettas are perfectly at home in a novelty wine-glass or cup sized container.
