Yes, certain meds can kill live plants as can the introduction of salt... read the instructions on your medications and they will usually inform you of whether or not they affect your bio load or other effects. Its more often lighting and fertilising/substrate problems that will kill your live plants though. Have you lost some plants? What medication were you using that you think may have caused this?

Another thing to remember when using medication is some will kill the bacteria in your filter as well. If you are medicating it is almost always advisable to clean your filter as a dead filter can poison your tank. Also take out any carbon in your filter before medicating. Otherwise It will absorb the medication. D

Hi, The medication I used was called MULTI CURE made by AQUA MASTER. It doesnt say anything on the bottle about it killing your plants or anything? just directions on the dose rates. I Havent lost any plants as such, but parts of the plant look really pale and have lost the nice bright green colour. Not sure on the name of the plant, but grows soo fast. Another plant I have is Java Moss, some of that has gone dark green and the little hairs on the plant look grey??? So not to sure on that. But before I added the meds in, all plants were healthy and nice and green. I added only the reduced amount stated as I have tetras & baby fish. Its prolly just damaged the plants a little, but are not fully dead. Cheers!!!!!!

Hi Yim Yam,
It sounds like the plants didnt like the meds much... if they are not dead, maybe you could try cutting off the really affected bits so that the plants dont waste energy trying to feed dead leaves... this may encourage new growth etc.
black hairy stuff could be algae resulting from the imbalance in your tank due to use of meds.
I must say I am not a plant expert and you may wish to refer to a plant forum or some such for more expert advice. Maybe also send an email to aquamaster and explain what happened and ask them if they can explain why this may have happened.
glad that your plants are not totally dead...:-)
cheers sammi
