So how do you go about adding a betta to a community tank?
Personally I put the betta in a small clear container and add or 'float' it in the tank, then leave it in the tank for about 1/2 an hour, watching the betta the whole time. If he 'flares' and begins to act agressive i do not add him to the tank, if he is acting normal I will add him and watch carefully for the next few hours. Sometimes they will flare at new fish they meet then calm down once they realise they are not a threat. They may also have a few exploratory nips at new tankmates. Remove any male that flares then 'attacks' other fish.
