Well it looks like I have beaten the Camallanus worms. Only time will tell ( next 3 months) to ensure I am rid of them.
Here is what I did
Big L pig and poultry wormer liquid. Active constituant: Levamisol 14g/L
Dosage: 1ml per 7 litres. Remove carbon from filter and have your PH 7 or under
I left everything in the tank and dosed straight into the water. I left it for 2 and half days then I redosed with the same quantity. The day after that I noticed the dead worm / worms hanging from the butts of the fish. I left the second dose in 2 - 3 days until all visible signs of the worms were gone. Use a magnifying glass to be 100% there is NO sign of them. I removed the fish from the tank and did 100% water change, being very careful to wipe down the insides of the tank. I also removed all gravel at this time in case some eggs were lerking that I didnt get. I rinsed the sponges in old tank water (Very quickly) just to remove any possible worm eggs. I rinsed any fake / real plants / ornaments in de clorinated water and re filled the tank . Remember to replace your new carbon at this time.
So far I have lost 1 female and 1 male due to the worms
1 female unknown causes and 1 male unknown causes
Time will tell. I pray all the worms have passed and are not rotting in the fish. They all seem fine and happy at this stage.
A final point which is vital not only with Camallanus worms but with any sickness is cross contamination. (Dipping nets, syphons and any othertank equipment or decoration in and out of different tanks)
sterilize ALL your syphons in bleach and water after each use(Mine melted with boiling water) RINSE EXTREMELY WELL. soak your nets in this also or boil. Another thing I do is now have green buckets for old tank water and red buckets for new replacement tank water.
This is what has worked for me but by no means is the total answer to the dreaded Camallanus worms. Good luck.
Worms be prepared to meet your maker!
