Good to see. You can never have enough fish. It’s also good to see you have got them in quarantine. It’s amazing how many people don’t do that. look forward to seeing the pics.

Happy to say my two newies are still alive... still in quarantine.... havent taken any photos yet as no light on quarantine tank.... got a new tank the other day... it is actually a turtle tank as it has a shelf with gravel on it half way up on the left side... am tossing on how to get rid of the shelf (or should I leave it there) will be putting gups in it once it is all set up.... yay!!!

even use it as a planted ledge with java moss or something else that creeps or hangs. catfish/loaches seem to like hanging out under ledges or even on them in the case of hoplos.

Na, got rid of it.... razor blade..too easy!!! I thought about keeping it but it was just a big shadowed area underneath and I was imagining how I would catch anybody and decided that it would make it very hard.... therefore goodbye platform! :-)
Now it looks like I wont get to put guppys in it as the fish in one of my other tanks are hassling each other and I may have to separate them into this new tank.... (spewing!!!)
Anyway gups are nearly ready to come out of quarantine.... one more week to be sure!!!

I hate it when you need to set aside a tank for 'nasties' My male sword tail is looking to go into prison soon. he has been fighting with my BGK. No way am I loosing a $30 fish to a $2 one . I think the sword thinks it is a rival male.

Yeh it is a hassle.... mine is oscars vs Scat/silver dollar/synodontis.... all growing too big for 165 ltr tank... 55litre not a good option for any of them but the only option we have at the moment....
swordtails can be quite rotten cant they... had one years ago chased others around all the time.

Hi, when you quarantine the fish, how long do you do it for? I have never done it for more than 3 days. pop them in a small tank, dose them with a broad spectrum antibactiriul according to the directions and then in after the 3 day period... I guess it would be different with different medications. I have never had any problems....YET!!!

I have always been advised just good clean water (Cycled) and wait 3 weeks before putting them into your main tank. My Q tank is a HUGE 20 litre glass fruit bowl, I have a little live plant, some gravel, heater and filter and a small hidey hole. At the monet in there I have 1 guppy male, 5 white cloud (This is their resident home to keep it cycled) and 2 neon and 2 cory... they are all extremely happy.

The usual is three weeks. If you are very very serious though or suspect some of the 'rare' parasitic diseases then you would quarantine for 3 months.

I usually quarantine mine for 2 to 3 weeks... I dont add any medications unless I suspect an actual disease.... I just keep them in the same conditions as my main display tank (water wise) but my quarantine tank is Barebottom with a small filter and airstone and heater with a little flower pot for them to hide in and a couple of floating bits of weed...With these two I have not had to add any meds.... but with the last lot one of the males sat on the floor of the tank for two days and I thought i was going to lose him.. dosed with pimafix and after three days he was up and swimming around with the others.. I think he was pretty stressed... but he is still around over 3 months later.... anyway the point was 3 weeks as some diseases can take a little while to show etc.... HTH
