A Molly is an Omniverous fish best Suited to an aquarium of 20gal or more, Larger for more agressive mollies such as the sailfin, 10 gallon tanks are ok for smaller species such as the balloon mollie. The aquarium is best well planted (java fern and java moss are recommended) with algae left to grow on a small section of the glass for Mollies to pick at as they love to browse on algae. Water specs Hardness: Medium to Hard Environment: In the wild mollies inhabit brackish water sometimes travelling to full salt water, Although they tolerate fresh water salt is best added at 1tbs per 5 gal for them to do best. 1/2 a cup of AQUARIUM salt per Ten gallons is reccomended if keeping a species tank. PH: 7.5-8.5. Breeding: The Mollie is a livebearer which means its young are born free swimming rather than deposited as eggs and hatching. It is best to have 2-3 females for every male. Pregnancy can take anywhere from 30-60 days depending on the breed and an average of 15-60 young are born. Breeding females are best fed a healthy diet of frozen bloodworm, algae and flake enritched with added vitamins for best results.
