well my son wanted some fish. so i pulled a small tank out of the shed and bought 3 gold fish, the next weekend i do a water change and decide i need a bigger tank so out comes a slightly larger tank out the shed ( i found this one at work) and fish get put in that one. a week later i decided "we need more fish" so off i got with my teo year old to the pet shop. we come home with two male and two female guppies (one female is pregnant)
i think to my self need bigger tank so out to the shed i go again and pull out the 3 foot tank. (also found at work, complete with light, pump and filter) tank gets a good clean and fish go in.
one female died and the other and 32 fry and a two headed one. since moving fry out of main tank in breeder box in to tank 2, mother has died and we only have 10 fry left now.
my wife and son went to the pet shop today and purchased one male and two females (both are to beleived to be expecting)

welcome to the forum. The fish bug seems to bite hard when it does bite. Thats quite a few tanks to set up in a short time!
There is usually quite a few deaths in tanks for the first 6 weeks that the tanks are maturing (cycling) and your beneficial bacteria is establishing itself. Just keep numbers of fish in the tanks and feeding low during this stage. after this time you will see a large algae bloom and know you are done. after this time it is safe to fully stock tanks and increase feedings.
hope you get a lot of enjoyment out of the new tanks.

Cheers for the info, unfortunatly our council has a 'tip shop' that employs people to collect and sell anything remotley useful. I think there is also a site called www.freecycle.org that has a big following in australia. People just post any items they want to give away for free, lots of tanks on there all the time.

Yeah our tip here doesnt allow any scavanging...as they call it. I think its a shame as another mans trash is someones treasure. Years ago I found a set of 4 plastic outside chairs...nothing wrong with them...or so I thought LOL...I am not a large person and neither was my first husband, so the chairs were ok for us... BUT we had a larger guest come over and he sat on the chair, it was fine at first then slowly he started sinking. At first I thought it was my imagination or the wine LOL No, the legs were splaying apart. It didnt break but was almost flat. LOL Oh the horror of this guest breaking my chair!!!! We discovered after close examination the legs were put on wrong (Molded) Instead of the rounded part pointing toward the outside, they pointed in leaving the U shape toward the outside therefore any weight made them sink LOL The was the last time I took anything from the tip!!!! This was nothing to do with Guppys or welcoming our new member. *Waves Hi* You will like this forum there is some pretty cluey people on here!!! saved my babies many a time.
