A very easy to keep live food suitable for adults and tiny fry, although not used much due to the difficulty in harvesting.
Vinegar eels are a tiny non-parasitic roundworm that naturally occours in very acid environments and often infests vats of cidar vinegar. To keep them all you need is a starter culture, a 1gal bottle, a piece of apple and some NATURAL (no preservative) apple cidar vinegar. The soloution in the bottle can be made anywhere from 1/2- 1/2 to full vinegar, add half an apple to the bottle then add your starter culture. In around a monthe the culture should become hazy with the tiny worms and will be ready to use. Top up the mix with cidar vinegar or water as it evaporates and start another culture as it becomes dark or black (usually around 6 months later). Rest the culture for 2 weeks as the worms are harvested and the culture becomes thinner.
Worms should be harvested by pouring through a filter paper which is the carefully washed with fresh water (excess fluid returned to bottle) the paper can then be rinsed in the tank to release worms.
