Yay! My frys are 2 months old today (actually it's my fiance's birthday too hee hee!) I'm excited coz I just noticed my baby boy frys are developing a pattern on their tail! My digi cam is a little too weak to take any good pictures of them though At the moment my boy fry are plain silver colour all over with transparent tails. Looks like they're developing a mosaic (?) pattern, I can see yellows and reds, kind of rainbow-ish and some dark bits in between the patterns so far, right at the base of the tail. The baby girl frys have a really dark black spot at the base of their tails (when they were smaller it looked like they were going to be half blacks, but not now!) with some really bright yellow coming in after the black spot...and their dorsal fin and bottom fin are a kind of blueish/whitish colour. Very exciting to try and see the changes each day. Some of the girl guppies look like they might actually be preggers already too (or they're just great big greedy food hogs), which is a bit of a worry seeing as I don't have the tank space to support them. I guess if I have another batch of fry I'll just try and give them away (couldn't bear to 'cull' them, seems mean when there's nothing wrong with them!)

as evil as this may sound I have resorted to taking out most of the plants ie. hiding spots and have moved any female fry that looked pregnant into the main guppie tank with adults at this size they wont be eaten but if they have babys you will probably find that the adults will eat them before you even get a chance to see them..... its the laws of nature guppies will eat their own babies if given half a chance.
if one or two survive thats fine but I dont have anymore room in my tanks to look after another big batch... already have main display tank to almost full capacity and my fry tank which is supposed to be my quarantine tank has about 30-40 fry of different ages in it..... maybe you can do that, that way you are leaving them to their own destiny... be smart dont get eaten, not so smart oops! eaten....

definitely a less mean option than putting them to sleep in the freezer or feeding them to my cat, seeing as I've always been a believer in survival of the fittest. Maybe that explains why my first guppy batch was so small, only 12 guppies. We went out after the first one popped out, and came back a few hours later when mumma guppy was all thin again. (how so many babies can come out of such a tiny fishy still mystifies me though). **only kidding about feeding them to my cat by the way, I'd never do that!! Lol

congratulations. the most exciting part of breeding guppies is when you get the first pattersn showing on the males. Unfortunatley they keep you waiting for another month untill they show their 'true' colours. Those first yellows can darken to reds, spots can turn into a snake pattern even.
All part of the fun though, especially when you have no idea of the dad.
