If I am worried about fry-eaters in the tank I will usually leave them to 1.5cm. Most of my fish dont bother fry though so I just put them in at around 1cm

However if you are doing selective breeding program, then it is not wise to put them together to mate. As its is quality you are looking for , not quantity. =p If you mate them too early, most unnecessary flaw in the selected one will be pass on( as they have not grown or mature up for u able to see), and this will destroy your whole strain which you are working heavily and effort and time spent. One thing you could do to speed up their growth rate is to increase the tempreture. This will increase their metabolism. However this will also decrease their life spend period depending on the environment you set them up. A normal guppy life spend is around 2 years.

I keep my males and females seperate as I would like to start breeding selectively. the fry I have are surpises from pregnant females from my LPS but im hoping that out of around 96 fry that I will get a few that are good to keep for breeding the rest im selling to the LPS. Thats why I want to sex them asap which in itself is nerve racking it would be the first time ive done it so I dont want to stuff up and accidently put a male in with the females. the ones that I want to sex atm are 1.5-2cm long at 3 weeks
