It all depends on the breed and colour of the fish as to how long colour shows. Black will usually start to show first, it can even be on the fish from birth as in the case of a lot of HB (half blacks) yellows and reds may start to show at 4-6 weeks and at around 8-12 weeks the guppy will have most of its basic clouring and patterns. fish will usually keep developing colour right up to maturity at about three months of age.

I have week old fry at the mo with some basic colours showing. Some have all black eyes some dont. Some have black on their tails and fins and some have a touch of blue. The father is unknown but mum is a blue tuxedo.

One of my first females was a blue tux, unfortunatley she would throw all female fish I also had no idea of the father but she always had more tuxes, a few pure blacks with blue fins and dark metallic green tux. They wouls show colour from a few weeks of age.

her origional fry I have had for about 4 generatios since deciding to start breeding guppies again about this time last year. Its strange but they went from blue to yellow/red/rainbow tailed the 4th gen has dropped some gold bodied yellow tailed offspring with transperant tux's, they look pretty strange. there is a breed that looks kind of like them called a 'pineapple tail'

Wow what a mix of colours. My bubs are...hummm...19 days old. They are quite dark still like tuxes, but the odd one is different with a bit of yellow and some with a bit of blue. Some have distinct spots on their tails and bodies...v cute. Mum is getting v fat again, so i wonder what the next batch will bring. Were your babies from the one original mating? Some of your colours sound pretty, like the pineapple tail. Post some more pics..i like seeing others fishes. Im not sure if i have any males though , a few a showing signs of being female...actually a lot ...hope i get one male.

I bought her from an LPS but she was very sick and had no fry for around 10 weeks untill healthy again so I am very sure the father was one of my fish. Strangley enough this strain seems to have no male input whatsoever. all the females are brownish, HB with yellow tails like the origional female and always produce HB males with red/gold/rainbow tails even though in a mixed breed tank

thats what happened with her. The LPS had just got in a shipment of gups. this one is particularly notorious for killing all ther gups within 3 days of getting them in. I was in there and she was the only one still swimming upright

Poor thing....if only LPS knew as much and practiced it, about keeping fish as they advertised, a lot less fish would be killed.

problem is, most dont even know the basics of keeping fish. Ask the employee about 'cycling ' and you will usually get a blank stare or the answer of 'it takes a day of standing the water'.
