G'day,
On my plants (can't remember what they're called) I seem to get black hair algae growth if the same stalk of plant is left for stand for more than a fortnight.
This is just annoying because it looks horrible, but apparently harmless as the guppies don't touch it.
What can I do to stop this growth? I don't want normal green algae growth to stop as my BN feast on it.

I usually dunk offended objects into some good old-fashioned boiling water untill the algae turns red, pick off leaves with any growth on them too. Havnt had a problem since buying a TRUE siamese algae eater. These do well with guppies. Unfortunatley they have a bad name because ther is another very similar fish (siamese flying fox/flying fox) that is very agressive and doesnt do a good algae eating job. The true SAE has clear fins, and a stripe that runs right to the end of the tail and has little to no colour besides a slight olive/gold tinge on the upper half of the body. The stripe in its bodt also looks a little jagged at the edges. The nasty has red-tinged fins and a very clean edges stripe that only extends to the base of the tail it may look a little nicer but DO NOT BUY IT they are likley to mess up your fish and not remove algae.
