i had angles for a while now, but im gana go back to breeding guppies. im gana give them all away (the angles) and start with a guppy. i wana set a strain but im not particularly worried about what type. im planning to get a female guppy form the LPS. let it give birth a few times (they can reproduce so many times without having to need another male eh ) i will sell of the babies, and when she finaly runs out of stored sperm, ill take her latest batch, raise them, select one male that has traits that i like, and breed him with the female. thats ALL i understand, from there i am GEUSSING that i get her next batch of babies, sell of the ones that dont look the way i wanted,(like the perants) and breed the one that DOES from THAT batch with the perant again. i should then get the offspring start looking like there perants more and more with every batch. heres the thing tho, when i breed her for the 1st time with the male of my choice, she will give birth a few times after that, so with her next batch, could i raise one of the females seh has and breed that female with, well, simply put, her dad? i presume this will have the same results. GAH confusion galore basicaly i want to start simple and get a strain set, i dont care what sort, i want to see how it works and stuff, so i can do it the way i want next time. so i see what will happen if i bred this with that etc. ya get me wat u guys/gals think

Hi Tidus, when you are trying to set a strain I think you need to have more than one trio of the same type of guppies from different genetic lines so that you can keep the line strong... I dont really understand all the genetics of it but it is a pretty full on breeding system that you would need to have to "set" a strain. you would need alot of tanks so that you can grow out your fry and then separate the sexes into males and females then pick the best ones, sell the others and cull any deformed ones. Here is a link that explains the breeding process.. it is very complex. Hope this link helps you out. Good luck! www.ifga.org/beginners/beginners_corner.htmthis is a great link I think...although it is a lot of reading. cheers sammi

thanks for the link. i got plenty of room im sure. i got a 100ish liter in my bedroom (yes, bedroom o.0) got another 140~litre tank which i can split into diferent sections as its long (the one in my rooms high, gah ) i also got 1 smaller 30 litre one in my room. so all in all i got around 6 tanks (the high one in my room can be split in half, still plenty of room for the fish.) 1 to have them breed in, 1 for raising fry, 2 for female/male frys (separated from the fry tank as they grow) then i got another 2 left, which i can do w/e with. i already kno alot of room is needed. im sure room wouldnt be TOO much trouble for me. its just HOW to do it thats got me troubled. im gana read the stuff on the link now and will rpely when im done ^^
