I've noticed that in the past few weeks a lot of my gupp's (females especially) will sit on the bottom of the tank during daytime as if they were sleepy.
Only reason I can think of is where their tank is i've set up an oscilating fan which is constantly moving, and might be disrupting their sleep?
You tell me.

I only have one that rests like that Rob. She is a big girl and a really fast breeder so she's probably always tired ;D Sounds like it is your fan though, it must cause very slight vibrations or similar.

I see my fish taking 'naps' about midday. they will usually respond quickly and normally if you feed or startle them. Only worry if they stay 'sluggish' when fed or would otherwise normally respond. It may be an early sign of poor water quality or a sick fish.

My two biggest females tend to have "restbreak" where they sit on the gravel under a rock in the tank.... I think they do it to stop the males from hassling them...and they do it more often when they are heavy with fry.... they always come up to eat!!!! I was worried when I first saw it but now know that it is fine, its just a thing they do (a bit like clown loaches really) at least they dont lay on the sides like the loaches do...:-)

I usually worry if more than one is affected at the same time. Usually a small waterchange helps.

I will take note of that although mine two actually were doing it and had done water change the day before... I did note though that they both seemed to be very close to or in the middle of giving birth... so I suppose they really need the rest.. they are the only to that do it but then they are also the biggest females... but thanks for that advice I am going keep an eye on that..
