PH Guppies can tolerate a wide range of PH but do best in the 7-7.2 mark. Just remember the higher your PH the more Ammonium will form into the more toxic ammonia, so it can be critical to keep ph low as possible during the first few months of tank setup.
adjusting: Check that ph is around 7-7.2 and water hardness (ask your LPS or get a test kit) is around 12-18 or moderate to hard. If your ph is low and water hardness is 'soft' then this can be kept stable with a small handfull of shellgrit added to the tank. The larger the tank the better.

I use 'BULLSEYE PH 7.5' which 'automaticly' raises or lowers your ph to 7.5. the downside is that they come in small bottles which treat around 110 lts ohh well, good things come in small packages lol

these products are fairly good if you have low ph, they also raise KH (hardness) which gups need quite high.

I actually have this stuff called KH7.... which raises your kh and keeps your ph Neutral at 7... I use it on my discus tank as i needed to up my kh but didnt want to raise the ph as is what happens when you use shell grit to raise the KH..

it is just ground up shells from the beach. It is used as an additive to bird-feed to give birds calcium. you can usually buy it in bags from the LPS from the bird-feed section or even in small boxes at coles and k-mart in the pet section. I usually add it at 1 handfull per 20 lt, wait two weeks then test the water. if ph isnt highter I add more. it gradually raises ph and KH so you cant really overdose on it.

You can also go to your LFS and buy a handful of broken up shells... thats what i did... its quite effective... you just put a little bit at a time in until you get your kh to where you want it... I scattered mine amongst the gravel but you can also put it in a stocking and hang in your tank somewhere..it has the same effect. HTH

Can you hide it .... you can put some in a stocking and hang it behind your filter if it is an internal one... or you can buy a chemical kh raiser... I have some stuff that raises the KH and keeps the PH at 7... it is called kh7...I use it on my discus tank as I dont want the ph to get higher than neutral. (remember that raising kh will usually result in raising PH... the kh will stabilise your ph and help to prevent ph crashes) .... what are your KH and Gh readings at the moment.?
